My Commitments

What commitments do you make to yourself and your future mentor educator, classmates and instructors that reflect your current understanding of these foundational documents?

First of all, I commit to respect the privacy of the children, families and program and keeping professional confidentiality.

Secondly, I recognize children as “strong, capable in their uniqueness, and full of potential” (BC ELF 2019, p.15). I respect the rights of children and families, the diversity among them, and reflect on my own “perspectives, privileges, biases, and assumptions” (ECEBC Code of Ethics, Principle 6, p.13) to search for improvements.

Thirdly, I commit to ask for feedback and supports from my mentor educator. I understand the connection between collaboration and good childcare, and the importance of keeping “respectful partnership with colleagues, allied professionals, community partners, and decision-makers” (ECEBC Code of Ethics, Principle 5, p.12).

I also commit to check in with myself as a daily routine, to take care of my own physical and mental health so that I can take good care of children by showing them the energy and commitment that I have with them.
